What is PRP treatment?

PRP treatment is a non-invasive therapeutic method that injects platelets contained in the blood into the scalp.
The goal is to use these growth factors contained in the platelets to stimulate the process of hair regrowth. In practice, the injection of PRP makes it possible to activate the microcirculation in the scalp and to regenerate the cells of the hair follicle.
PRP treatment has proven its effectiveness for nearly twenty years.
From the first session, the patient may notice a decrease in hair loss, the hair can sometimes grow back a few months after the 2nd session.

What are the indications?

PRP treatment is indicated for both men and women. It is particularly recommended in the following cases:

  • androgenetic hair loss
  • diffuse hair loss
  • slowing hair regrowth
  • Hair Transplant
  • alopecia areata

What are the results ?

According to numerous scientific publications, PRP treatment has satisfactory success rates. The patient notices an improvement in the quality of the hair and a decrease in hair loss. Studies show an improvement in the number of hairs per cm² ranging from 15 to 30%. A trichoscopy check makes it possible to check the effectiveness of the treatment.

How is PRP treatment performed?

The most common protocol consists of two sessions spaced three months apart, then one to two sessions per year. It takes 45 minutes per session.

1st step: collecting blood

PRP treatment relies on the use of platelets contained in the blood. This is the reason why treatment always begins with a blood sample (between 30 and 60 mL).

2nd step: isolation of platelet rich plasma

Blood made up of three types of cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. For a PRP treatment, only platelets used, because they the ones that contain the growth factors capable of regenerating the follicular bulbs. To separate them from other blood components, the collected blood placed in a centrifuge for about ten minutes.

3rd step: PRP extraction

Usually 10 mL of platelet rich plasma extracted. The plasma thus extracted benefits from a high concentration of growth proteins.

4th step: PRP injection into the scalp

The doctor performs local anesthesia or places an anesthetic cream on the patient’s scalp before directly injecting the PRP extracted previously. It favors the areas where hair loss has occurred. Several injections performed using a disposable micro-needle.
